the lueneburg variation

paolo maurensig's the lueneburg variation is a very haunting book. it's about chess, about the persecution of the jews, about one man's search for redemption, and the other's dark, hidden past. everything is very well-linked. and the story climaxed with a horrifying revelation. at least to me, it was. personally, i feel that it was very well-written, the style and all. written in a language that really sets the mood for the entire story. i like the way maurensig was able to switch the perspective as the story develops. from tabori, to mayer, then back to tabori. seamless.

it's like a mind game.
