the 1-1 draw with england was very disappointing. they were more lively, but distinctly uncomfortable with the 4-3-3, some say.
even though we had an off day, we looked right at home with 4-3-3.
the dutch grew up with 4-3-3. but the real reason why we switched back to 4-3-3 as compared to the late 90's was because we do not ahve dennis bergkamp anymore.
there are a few questions that need to be answered.
first, cocu. who is going to replace cocu? seedorf was recalled for that purpose. i am not very sure about it. after all, seedorf really had had his chances. i don't think he was particularly outstanding either.
for me, the answer is very straightforward. the three midfielders will come from van der vaart, sneijder, maduro, stijn schaars. choose 3.
of more pressing concern would be the frontline. van niistelrooy knocked in 4 goals against osasuna as kuyt looked lost in the centre. van der vaart was on the right, and they say micah richards got the better of robben. the last point, i don't really care. because one chance is all that robben needs. and if i beat u 10 times, you are gone. your career is over as a defender.
but anyway, van der vaart shouldnt be on the right. not on the left either, i guess. play him in the center, i think.
kuyt's place is on the bench. huntelaar should start. he might not be scoring as freely, last season's european golden boot winner, but he is the man for us. i believe in that.
what about van niistelrooy? i have seen the 4 goals. very clinically done, and shows the positive side of his intelligence.
positive, because van niistelrooy is a very clever player who uses his brains for dirty tricks as well. but the 4 goals were well taken. he was in space, he drifted into space, and that gave his technique the chance to showcase itself to the world.
it was very clever. it just shows that he still ahve something to give: he can be the player to come in when need be, to come in and win the game.
because he still can score, but he's had had his chances.
