ich bin immer da.

tight contests are usually defined, decided by what has come to be known as 'a moment of magic'.

indeed, david villa's volley against italy on the 76th minute after a poor header from cannavaro is a goal worthy of winning any game. reminiscient of zidane's winner in the champions' league final between real madrid and leverkusen.

holland went 3-0 down to austria before staging a stunning comeback to win 4-3. ok, personally i think this was unnecessary; why not win 4-0 right from the start? but at least we didnt lose this. yet it tells you how vulnerable you can be if you don't focus from the start. that was basically what happened.

and germany swept the swiss aside (again). 4-0. i think klose is the established striker, but gomez and podolski will make an interesting partnership.

at the end of the game, they interviewed podolski and asked him if he was sending out a reminder through his performance of his presence.

his reply was: ich bin immer da. ich war nie weg.

i am always there. i was never away.

he also said that it doesnt matter whether he plays for 90 minutes or 30 minutes. what's important is to show what he can do. he came on as a sub on the hour, created one and scored one.

he took his chance.
