bittersweet

watching Russia get totally outclassed by Spain is both happy and sad.

happy because Spain were a joy to watch. Villa's misfortune at getting himself hurt taking a freekick turned into Spain's fortune, as the introduction of Fabregas meant the Fantastic Four were reunited for perhaps the first time in the tournament- Silva, Iniesta, Xavi and Fabregas. and fantastic they were.

happy because the dwarves of the Spanish midfield made the Spanish clockwork tick to perfection. intelligence will prevail.

happy because Spain had put Russia in their proper place, showed them who's the real thing, who's the pretenders.

happy because Spain had taken revenge for us in such an overwhelming manner.

but sad because it should have been us playing, thereby sparing Russia the trauma of going through a hammering again.

sad because this pathetic Russia was the team that destroyed the even more pathetic us.

sad because no matter how many times you ask : Arshavin who? as you watch how total Russia's defeat was, you can't change the fact that last Saturday, our defeat was total.

sad because Spain showed how easy it was. Spain did everything we didn't do. control the game, kill the space, apply the pressure, win the challenges, attack, attack, attack. that was all that was needed to beat the Russians. as simple as that.

come sunday, if Spain plays like this, Germany has no chance at all.
